EventCrate Support

EventCrate collects events from Instagram posts and links on a shelf on your iPhone. Here are answers to common questions.

How do I save a post?

In Instagram, tap “Share” and choose EventCrate. Or copy the post’s link, open EventCrate and choose “Paste a link”. The app reads title, date and place from the publicly visible post.

Title, date or place is wrong or missing

Open the entry and correct the details by hand. Recognition only works when the information is in the post’s text or image. Private posts cannot be read.

Where is my data?

Only on your device. There is no account and no server. If you delete the app, your entries are deleted too. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Why does the app ask for calendar and location access?

Calendar: so you can add events and see who is coming. Location: so the map shows your position under “Nearby”. iOS only asks when you use the feature, and you can change it any time in iOS Settings.

Delete an entry

Open the entry and choose the delete option in the “…” menu.

In short

EventCrate stores all entries, images and notes only on your device. There is no server run by the developer, no account, no advertising, no tracking and no analytics software. The developer receives no usage, location, calendar or contact data.

Fetching shared links

When you share or paste a link, the app loads the publicly visible page of that link directly from your device, for example from Instagram (Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd.) or an organizer’s website. As with any visit in a browser, that provider receives technically necessary data, in particular your IP address and the address requested. The provider’s own privacy policy applies. The developer of EventCrate receives none of it.

Recognizing title, date and place

Title, date and place are recognized on your device from text and images, using iOS text recognition and, where available, Apple’s on-device language model. No content is sent to the developer for this.

Places and maps

To show and search places, the app uses Apple’s map services (MapKit). Apple receives the address that is looked up. Apple’s privacy policy applies.

Location

Only when you tap “Nearby” on the map and iOS asks for permission (“While Using the App”). Your location is used to show your position on the map and move the map there. It is not stored and not sent to the developer. You can withdraw the permission at any time in iOS Settings.

Calendar

Only with your consent the first time you tap “Invite” or “Add to Calendar”. Events are written to your calendar and read from it to show who is coming. The developer receives no calendar data.

Photos

The app does not ask for access to your whole photo library. Only images you pick yourself in the system picker are copied into the app.

Crash reports

If you have allowed sharing analytics with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple provides the developer with anonymous crash reports.

Retention and deletion

Your data stays on your device until you delete entries or remove the app. Removing the app deletes the data.

Your rights

Because the developer stores no personal data about you, there is nothing to access or erase there. For questions or requests, write to [email protected]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.

Kurz gesagt
